Professor Julia Fulghum, together with UNM colleagues Mala Htun (PoliSci), Mary Jo Daniel (OVPR), Stephanie Forrest (CompSci) and Felipe Gonzales (Sociology), has obtained a 5-year, $3.3M National Science Foundation for Institutional Transformation.  The award provides funding to establish “Advance at UNM”, a program intended to foster the success of women and minority STEM faculty by transforming the university climate.
Recent studies at UNM show that women and minority faculty face more challenges to their professional success than white, non-Hispanic, male faculty.  The program seeks to develop “sustainable efforts to develop new internal expertise and dramatically expand resources for faculty at all career stages”.  The grant also provides funding to evaluate the effectiveness of the new resources created and reforms accomplished by the program.
