Chairman's Letter to Prospective Students

Newsletter, Fall 2007

The DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY and CHEMICAL BIOLOGY at the University of New Mexico has both undergraduate and graduate degree programs. An undergraduate B.A. or B.S. degree in chemistry provides a range of career choices from medicine to quantum theory. Undergraduate research opportunities exist in all fields and the Department encourages chemistry majors to pursue independent research with a faculty mentor. The graduate program offers the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in analytical, biological, biophysical, inorganic, organic, theoretical and physical chemistry. With over 20 full-time faculty, there are currently 15 active research groups within the department.
Our research facilities include a variety of major equipment for NMR, mass spectrometry, x-ray diffractometry and spectrometers for light scattering, fluorescence, Raman, FTIR, CD and MCD studies. All qualified graduate students are awarded assistantships and tuition credit hours. Recent graduates have been awarded post-doctoral fellowships at MIT, Harvard, Johns Hopkins, and Northwestern Universities, Lawrence Berkeley National Labs and Merck Pharmaceutical. Please explore our web site to learn more about the program and if you have any questions, please contact us.
