Graduate Applications
Application Procedures:
The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology’s application package (forms and instructions) are listed below. Please complete all requirements for the Graduate Application procedures based on whether you are a domestic or an international applicant and send them to the department. Graduate Applications – Domestic:

Albuquerque, NM 87131-00011. Application and Residency Form:
Complete and sign the application and residency form for graduate admission. The residency form is used to determine residency for tuition purposes. All students are required to complete this form.
2. Official transcripts from each institution you have attended:
One official transcript from each university you have attended including UNM.
3. Letter of Intent:
Please list your area of research interest, and one or two faculty members with whom you are interested in working.
4. Three Letters of Recommendation:
Three letters of recommendation are required as part of an application. Please complete the blanks at the top of each page. All letters MUST be on offical letterhead and signed by the recommender.
5. GRE Scores:
GRE scores are required. In addition to the general GRE, the chemistry GRE exam is highly recommended.
The Department will pay the application fee. Once you are recommended for admission by the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology, your application will be forwarded to the Office of Admissions for processing of your application to the university.

2. Academic Records:
UNM requires official copies of each academic record (including diplomas and degree certificates) from all colleges and universities. To be official, the academic records (grade report or individual mark sheets), diplomas, and degree certificates must bear the original seal, stamp, or signature of the institution’s designated official. All documents must be submitted in both the original language accompanied by official English translations. Notarized, faxed, or photocopied documents are not acceptable.
3. Letter of Intent:

5. English Proficiency Results - International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL):
If English is not your first language, or if English is not the official language spoken in your country, you must take either the IELTS -- minimum score 7; the TOEFL -- minimum score 550 paper-based, 213 computerized version, or 79-80 internet-based. Official test results must be sent directly to the University of New Mexico not the Chemistry & Chemical Biology Department.
6. GRE Scores:

Application Deadlines:
Chemistry & Chemical Biology accepts applications for Fall semester only. The Chemistry Graduate Application Committee will begin the review of complete graduate applications on the last Friday of January and will not accept any files or additional information after that date. If your file is not complete, it will not be reviewed. It is up to the student to allow adequate time (6 to 8 weeks prior to the department deadline) for processing and mail delivery of the application. The department will not accept faxed or Xerox copies of any information. There are no exceptions made.
