Research
Our research is focused on understanding the role of nanoscale structure on charge and energy migration in novel optoelectronic materials. We will use new spectroscopic approaches for correlating chemical structure and morphology to rates of electron transfer as well as develop new materials strategies for improved device performance.
We have recently developed a resonance Raman spectroscopic imaging technique whereby excited state structural displacements of different electronic states can be interrogated. These quantities are related to charge transfer reorganization energies that can then be mapped to reveal structure-function landscapes in heterogeneous photovoltaic devices.
Combined single molecule/particle spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques are also being developed to probe charge injection and transport in nanostructured optoelectronic materials. We have the unique ability to study chemical structure of redox sites and the data will teach us how to optimize materials structure to achieve the best possible performance in a functioning device.
