We are excited to announce the opening of a Bioorganic/Biochemistry faculty position, rank open, in the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of New Mexico to commence as early as January 2008. Candidates having a strong background in biochemistry and bioorganic chemistry with research interests in chemical biology are invited to apply. Both beginning and established investigators are welcome; however, candidates must have a PhD by appointment date with strong training in one or more areas of bioorganic/biochemistry. Preferred qualification for all levels include: postdoctoral experience, the potential for excellence in teaching and for developing an outstanding, externally funded, and nationally competitive program at the University and national levels. To be competitive for the position of Assistant Professor, candidates must meet the qualifications listed above as well as meeting most or all of the following expectations: postdoctoral training in the areas of biochemistry and/or bioorganic chemistry, potential for excellence in teaching bioorganic and biological chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and strong potential for developing a highly successful research program in chemical biology. To be qualified as an Associate Professor, the candidate must meet all of the requirements and expectations listed previously, and, in addition, they must have teaching experience and experience directing chemistry research activities, a well-established teaching program in the areas of bioorganic and biological chemistry and a well-established research program in chemical biology. To be qualified as a Professor, the candidate must meet all of the requirements and expectations listed previously and have significant teaching experience, significant highly successful experience directing chemistry research activities, and a well-established, well-funded, internationally recognized research program in chemical biology. The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology is located on the same campus as the University of New Mexico Medical School, and is close to the Los Alamos and Sandia National Labs. Situated in the heart of Albuquerque (population 0.5 million), the University of New Mexico features a beautiful campus that captures the culture of the Southwest.
